Prathap Pothen- South Indian Actor Dies At 69

Pratap Pothen was an Malayalam actor and film maker dies at the age of 69 .Today Pratap Pothen was found dead in his apartment  in chennai .He did acting in more than 100 fims and was known for his unique dialogue delivery . He appeared in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu as well as Hindi films.

His most memorable role was probably in ‘Varumayin Niram with Kamal Haasan in Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu, directed by the legendary K Balachander. Pratap Pothen also directed the hit film Vetri Vizha starring Haasan, among his other directorial ventures.

Pratap Pothen  made three more films – ‘Thakara’ ‘Chamaram’ and ‘Lorry’, which are milestones in Malayalam film history.

Films like ‘Nenjathai Killathe’ and ‘Panneerpushpangal’ moodupani and varumayin niran sigappu made Pratap famous in Tamil also. In fact, he got more chances in Tamil. Pratap Pothen first movie was , ‘Aaravam‘, in 1978 which was directed by Bharathan.

Under his direction his first film was ‘Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai’ .It is  a story of a mentally unwell couple – won the national award also.

Pratap directed three films in Malayalam – ‘Rithubetham’, Daisy’, which sent a romantic wave throughout Kerala, and ‘Oru Yatra Mozhi’, which presented a son in search of his unknown father. He also directed a Telugu film – ‘Chaithanya’.

Many political leaders and film acotrs has given condolescence to Pratap Pothen.
